How to Play Everyday Olympics
The audience is asked for an everyday activity or for a sport that does not yet exist (for example onion chopping world championship, table setting contest, the championship in washing yourself with all waters and so on).
On the stage two performers now fight in slow motion for victory in this discipline. At the edge of the stage two sports reporters sit and comment on the events, or one sports reporter and one expert. Fouls and unfair means leading to victory are allowed. In the end there is usually a winner because the opponent was thrown out of the race by foul means. Only in the rarest cases do the opponents make peace with each other.
Tips and notes
- Important: The appeal of the game stands and falls with consistently keeping up the slow motion tempo. Best as slowly as possible and never getting faster.
- It is recommended to do a (commented) warm-up phase of the players before the actual competition, of course also in slow motion.
- The sports reporters can comment in varied ways by excitedly steering toward a highlight of the game, perhaps even when it does not look that way at all. Then in between they can explain the peculiarities and possible "rules" of the game. Alternated with background information about the characters or trivial things ("Player A is wearing his red H&M T-shirt for 4.95 again today and is setting a clear signal!"). They can take turns with the expert or other reporter: "I think Player A did himself no favor with that move, what do you think, Paul?". And then of course also build in silent pauses.
